Three key elements to creating the nursery of your dreams
Creating a nursery for your little one is one of the most exciting parts of being pregnant. You get to create a sanctuary for you and your baby. A place where the rest of the world melts away and it becomes just the two of you.
#1 Define your vision and goals
Knowing the vibe of what you are going for can make all the difference. Gathering your ideas in one place like a mood board can be really helpful when it comes time for making decisions. We live in a busy city so I knew I wanted to bring some peace and tranquility to the room. I immediately thought of the mountains where my husband grew up. What better way to represent his family than to go with a mountain theme. Using my vision board, I picked light neutral colors and used wood wherever I could to make the room feel more open like nature.
#2 Incorporate your style
I think it’s important for baby to know the things their parents enjoy and like. You are getting to know your baby and at the same time your baby is getting to know you. My husband and I both share a love for hip hop so I wanted to find ways to incorporate that into the room. I took a look at my vision board and picked out a few small touches that I could scatter throughout the room while still fitting in with the aesthetic.
#3 Create something for baby
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the excitement but don’t forget this is the room where your baby will spend a lot of time. That should be a key factor when deciding how you want to set the room up. I wanted to make sure there were things on his level so that he could experience the world on his terms. I put plants lower to the ground so he could interact with nature. I chose a bookshelf that had shelves he could reach so he could pick the books and toys he was interested in. I value my personal time so I decided to add a teepee for him to have a place that was his own private space.
Using my vision board made it easy to find ways to make sure that everything I wanted represented in the nursery was included. A cohesive aesthetics can be used to incorporate different thoughts and ideas without looking out of place. By including a little bit of us and a little bit of baby, the nursery quickly became my favorite room in the house.
